I have been watching The Americans with the spouse, and just before the episode in which The Day After premiers, we decided to watch The Day After.

I had seen it as a kid, possibly in a re-run, but I don't remember much about how it impacted me; I just remember it being depressing.

This time, I cried during the explosions despite the very limited special effects. Because I know we've forgotten what we learned from that movie and from living under the constant threat of nuclear annihilation. I couldn't help but think "this is what it's going to come to."

And I am absolutely convinced that it will. We WILL use nuclear weapons in war again.
