In the course of one morning, under threat of losing all my Messenger convos with my family, Meta had me
- install a Meta app on my old smartphone 🤢
- deactivate my VPN 😱
- agree to a Facebook account *or else* (you did that like 5 years ago)
- make me believe I could have a bare Messenger account... SUCKER YOU'RE NOT IN EU !!
To finally be back to square one : FB account deactivated, using Messenger only...

@fetchezlavache I use Beeper to not have to install Messenger (or any other Meta app) on my phone. You still need an active Facebook account, but it doesn't have to be on your phone.
Beeper itself belongs to Automattic.
