i thought that at first too but i think it's actually the angle of the illumination and shadow of hanania's hand/drink. i also feel like i need a shower after doing a close reading of this image 🤮
@inquiline I seriously considered going to school to be an ethicist but the career options were basically teaching ethics or doing ethical rationalization for corporations.
Nobody wants to *actually* listen to an ethicist, they just want cover for when the public says "This is bullshit!" and then the company says "But we had an ethicist look at it (and constrained their input as hard as possible)"
100%. my home field is science & technology studies. we are generally never called upon for our insights or expertise in instaces where, say, a critique would lead to a company being told not to do something they want to do and that is profitable. they instead go an ethics-washing route
@inquiline "Do you prefer deplorable option A or deplorable option B? The executive leadership already decided it has to be one of these two..."
@inquiline Did Yarvin spill his drink? What's happening there?

@inquiline I feel like these ... guys ... were residents of my dorm in college. Extremely familiar incel vibe. Everyone ignored them because they obviously did not have a grip on reality. If you engaged them on any subject, they got inappropriately excited and insistent on debating the point. (I was a philosophy major.)
this is a good companion piece. the pull quote i grabbed got cut off because of character limits, but the whole thing about these people having immediately discreditable (and already discredited) ideas that other people are forced to deal with once they gain a toehold is extremely important. ignoring them when it's safe to do so is the better path for many reasons. i hate that people have to expend energy "refuting" their garbage
@inquiline hell of dysgenic physiognomies right there tho lol
@inquiline Dark money is coming out from someone's dark pocket.
Just discovered the term #limitarianism: the idea is that a huge amount of money is not only a selfish wealth but also power against others, and we should limit the maximum amount one can control.
@inquiline So, that's what the master race look like?
@inquiline Philosophy makes economics look like a lefty discipline in comparison!
Everyone wants their children to be healthy. People will do what you say, if you promise them that. They will especially do what you say, if you point to that guy over there and say "That guy wants you to have unhealthy children. Let's get him!"
It's kind of like why marriage-loving philosophers enjoy publicity, institutional support, and financial security.
Except you're downplaying that huge bag of money they receive specifically to spout such nonsense.
@inquiline I was reading some "rationalist" blogs recently, the comments were just straight up eugenicists looking for cover in the main posts (which were also bad). A pox on them all.
Check for an association with this guy https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Eliezer_Yudkowsky
He's one of the main founders for the R part of TESCREAL.
And given the context I should probably directly link to the Eugenic promotion.

thanks. i try to not pay attention to this beyond having read Timnit Gebru et al's paper about TESCREAL, under the belief that other people are paying close attention, which, thank gods they are
@inquiline @alienghic yeah, we can't all pay attention to everything. Good to pick your lane. Thank the gods for Gil Duran and others working that beat.
yuuupppp. gross. this really got to me:
"we have a choice between remaining silent or engaging in debate. ... we are compelled to address them in academic publications and other texts. As a result, we have less time for our own research.. We are forced to engage with research of questionable quality that has not previously been part of our core expertise and has already been thoroughly refuted by others..."
these tedious, worthless shits

@inquiline @kzodasnowman the proud Zionist Nazi.
i hope these disgusting fucks overplayed their hand. may they get what they deserve
@inquiline
I hope so too.
At the moment he got a whole page in the WSJ as the victim of the rightful anger about Arday's death. Don't remember if he wrote it himself or someone else did. 😞
ugggghhhhh
(yeah i assume even if he gets run out on a rail, which i definitely hope will happen, he'll be made into some kind of martyr, the kyle rittenhouse of academia)
@inquiline
Very likely. The defence machine on the hell site was immediately in overdrive.

@inquiline I'd found myself wondering, "Have you motherfuckers even heard of Wittgenstein?"
This explains a lot.
Epstein hired Steven Pinker to fuck up moral philosophy.
I remember everybody in the mainstream fawning over that obvious pile of crap "better angels of our nature".
That's before we knew about Epstein's EDGE network.
