Digging a bit deeper into ActivityPub currently. It is sad, that the bigger services seem to settle on “Note” as the message type of choice. All the other types from the vocabulary seem to be a niche, which isolates you from the bigger part of the network. But I may be wrong and have to dig deeper into the topic.
@oliverandrich you're sadly not wrong. Mastodon has de-facto forced every other application out there to use Note.
Your choice as a developer is: do I want the maximum reach, or do I stop negotiating with terrorists.
@mariusor This is a very sad situation. I see so much nice capabilities, that are not available for the mass of the user base. Or you have to fan out the same content in two different Formats.
@oliverandrich I was mostly joking with my comment above, but I *do* develop for a future that is not dominated by Mastodon.
So while I think that emitting just Notes is relatively benign, you should always accept and interpret *all* the Activity vocabulary objects (at least the ones relevant to your application).
