Ooo kay that bit of wood i pulled off the drying racks to mill for a vise jaw was camphor laurel. My sinuses are awake now.
@Unixbigot mmm spicy wood
@jpm @Unixbigot
Eurgh - I'm currently digging the leftover stumps and roots of several camphor laurels out of my back yard.
We offered the trunks and branches to the local men's sheds and wood turners assoc, but no one wanted any of it.
Annoying stuff.
@markjustmark @Unixbigot you can pay someone to bring in a stump grinder and they’ll be gone in like an hour.
@jpm @Unixbigot
I wish.
This is the back yard of a building site - no big machinery getting back there.
Also, these are the leftovers - the trees that were taken down in the "build envelope" had their stumps and roots ripped out by an excavator. These guys are wrapped around the native gums that we want to keep, hence doing it by hand.
