littleFedi isn't my personal project.
It's the work of a team. And one of the reasons some of them were skeptical about making it public, and still prefer to remain anonymous, is precisely the fear of seeing their work casually labelled as AI-generated.
This witch hunt isn't helping anyone.
Because the only ones who don't feel offended when their work is quickly dismissed as AI-generated are the AIs themselves.
And if we keep going this way, eventually they'll be the only ones left.
@stefano I feel that. But made difference experience: My Team is allowed to use Ai as they want. But my Team also knows: Hell knows no wrath comparable to the one I will unleash upon you if you cannot explain your code to me. And i'm regularly involved into all PRs...
Sometimes they do; sometimes they can't. We have ongoing team-discussions about that. But ultimately we agree on "Set the tone!" and be ready to defend your decision!
There is no need for witch-hunt or blame-game. We tried, maybe we failed, and we try again to make our feature more "unfailable".
That said: Ai is not a bad thing per se... as long as you understand everything (and its consequences) Ai did for you. Ai may fail and so do human developers. Thats the reality we have (and had) to deal with.
@stefano Dismissing a whole open source project as soon as there is any AI code in it is overly zealous, in my opinion.
@bentsukun Also, we can't really prove it. Sometimes it's quite obvious, sure, but sometimes it isn't that easy to tell. It's code. Should I really go on a witch hunt and spend hours trying to prove that a developer who told me they wrote the code themselves actually did?
@stefano @bentsukun at least you gotta formally ban it, and remove it when found, even if some could theoretically lie and add unobvious slop that still runs.
@ailurocrat @bentsukun that's the point. I'm not able to (fully) detect it. So I could lie and say "NO SLOP WARRANTY" - but the point is - I can't guarantee it. That's the point I stated in the FAQ.
And is it? AI generated or helped?
I am asking, because I think the least thing we can do be transparent on the exact amount of AI involvement.

What I nice little project... I like this idea of going back to essentials.
@glitzersachen By the way, that's another point. AIs overcomplicate stuff. When I see AI generated code, it's usually...inefficient. That's what littleFedi is trying to avoid: inefficiency.
