Beginning my fourth day in #Australia. Still have not seen a single 🦘! Boarding a plane from Canberra to Brisbane. Perhaps I will see one there… 🤔
@danyork You just weren't in the right part of Canberra https://aus.social/@Devorppa/117132209670403138
@Drbruced Yes, and I also wasn’t able to go at the right time of day. Multiple Canberra locals told me where I could see many of them.. but also that I needed to be there around dawn or dusk, and that didn’t work out.
@danyork I was there four weeks and didn’t see any in the wild. Since I was driving along back roads, I count that as a good thing …
(Isn’t Queensland more crocodiles than ‘roos?)
@partim Ha! Yeah, locals told me about some roads where there were frequent accidents involving cars and ‘roos.
I don’t know about crocodiles here. I am now in Brisbane right in the core of the city section, so wild animals are not around.
@danyork I bet you have similar stories about moose in your part of the world.
I had one on the road just behind a bend in New Brunswick once. Luckily it was a narrow and very slow road.
@partim Yes! Moose can be a (literally!) HUGE issue on rural roads in northern Vermont (and also NH and ME). Particularly because they are tall and your car will hit their thin, spindly legs and … bring their 1,000 pound (450kg) body crashing down on the front of your car! 😱
Neighboring New Hampshire use to have large warning signs on their highways with stats like “170 people killed by hitting moose”. They may still have those signs.
@danyork Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane has kangaroos. And koalas.
@dblacka Thank you! Locals recommended that, too, but alas it is only open from 9:00am to 5:00 and… those are the exact hours we are doing the training sessions here.
So it may just be that seeing kangaroos in the wild is something left for a future trip! 😃
(I *have* seen kangaroos in zoos in the USA)
