You know what? Let's have another referendum on MMP, but this time - like the first time - let's do it properly. 2 referenda; a Louis Vuitton cup of election systems, including FPP as an option, and then the final runoff between the winner of that, and MMP.
Bonus points for including a constitutional document that describes how the NZ works now, and one for each contender, documenting what would change.

FPP definitely isn't the solution. The UK population has been hamstrung and asset-raped by it so much they often don't even realise it is happening and displaced blame to working immigrants etc. With a biased media, it is the nightmare which gives Farage a doorway to causing maximum harm.
Every bit as warped as having years of Winston or ACT choose who to side with etc.

Missing context here is CLuxon's announcement that he wants another MMP vs. FPP referendum. The implied question of my post was; why does FPP automatically get to be the other option in a referendum on MMP?
I'm old enough to remember FPP elections in NZ, and I don't think going back there would improve anything. But neither do I think MMP is all that great. I suspect if we got creative, we could come up with a homegrown option better than both.
Limiting a #referendum to choice between two flawed election types is a technique used in Ericksonian hypnosis, and its very car salesman-like Neuro-Linguistic Programming (which western right wing politics misuses frequently).
To put it as it was taught to me years ago, the subject is offered multiple choices because this relaxes him or her, but the con is that each choice leads to the one intended, controlled outcome.
So here, Luxon is presenting an illusion of choice, knowing well that it will either be the same or worse.
Plus he is pulling the classic far right trick of presenting illusion of choice AND an opportunity to agitate population by dividing them into opposing factions. And they divide populations to weaken them ... with a referendum being used to flood airwaves with misinformation. E.g. #Brexit.
Further bonus points for one of the first 2 referenda to include a mandate for a constitutional convention. To sit for 3-6 years after that. Then a third referendum, with a choice between the proposal from the convention, and the constitution that won the second referendum.
