The FFS Project Update Thread
ICYMI I'm making a bright & cheerful multilingual collection of the frustrated, angry, exasperated, slightly sweary expressions that are a constant companion to anyone paying attention in 2026, frequently as they check the news headlines.
Called the FFS project because in English "for fuck's sake" is a prime example of this, & because the whole thing was inspired by a request to make the Welsh version.

Still in English, but in 2016 ORLY? was my constant companion for these situations. Eventually, events wore me down and I rarely have the energy to exclaim anymore.
@JMMaok I think 2016 was the starting point for my exclamations becoming ruder.
The initial thread last night confirms that while many languages have an equivalent phrase it doesn't tend to be a literal translation, & I think gathering the idiomatic translations is the right direction to go.
Happy to get some regional versions too, as that seems to be a thing.
There is a spreadsheet with 76 entries so far. Please bear with me. 😆
For languages where I end up with many options I'll go for a poll / discussion thread.
