why is tumblr and stuff like personal website not as popular than a few years ago?

There are so many free hosts for websites and so many website builders.
Social Media are killing the internet
(yes i see the irony of posting this on Mastodon but i think my point is coming across no? )
Discord and Reddit killed the typical Forums or crippled them severely that is also super sad in my opinion
