The idea that an LLM "went rogue" and "escaped" its sandbox is such an extravagantly bald-faced lie one hardly knows what to do with it.
That journalists are reporting that complete and utter shite is evidence of the remarkable extent of--and *success* of--the fraud being committed by these people.

@GeePawHill Part of the problem is also caused by how often developers expect software-based limitations to work. If they really would have wanted to sandbox their software, cutting network access physically would have made any sandbox a whole lot more effective and secure.
