I've used #MySQL for most of my career, but finally really getting in the weeds with #postgres

And dang Postgres has some nice features but MySQL blows it out of the water performance-wise. That or Neon is just especially slow.

@ramsey @evert There are some interesting offerings like GCP AlloyDB planetscale, supabase and data bricks that are doing interesting stuff in the managed postgres space.

@ramsey @evert generally had bad performance experience with "serverless" PostgreSQL offerings by AWS as well.

Postgres is not a race car, more like a high speed train :-)

@ocramius @evert And who knows what RedShift is under the hood, but it should not be queried by production websites. (It uses the postgres API to query it).

@ramsey @evert probably all distributed jobs with a columnar store under the hood.

We used Athena / Glue / S3Tables for large data warehouse operations, and they are always O(N) operations, just with a lot of firepower by the hyperscaler.

You can expect crazy good performance, but always >1s execution time
