That one Futurama episode where Fry and Leela have to take cover from night in a moon lander implies the existence of at least one Apollo-era mission where the astronauts did not return.
Since Fry steps on a footprint implied to be Armstrong's, that means in that universe Buzz and Neil died in the Moon
@KolaMagpie I got curious, but it looks like after they get the astronauts back into the shuttle, they drop the lander again before returning. So there are several Apollo Lunar Landers up there, including several from other countries as well!
Only got curious because the Futurama writing team is full of some of the biggest nerds ever, wouldn't expect them to make a mistake as simple as that.
@Happenstance Well the lander's don't return to the surface like depicted. IIRC in the show the descent and ascent stage are still together which means the ascent stage never left.
I think it's possible the Apollo 11 ascent stage is still in lunar orbit; I think they started de-orbiting the ascent stages after returning the crew to the CSM, so most of them are craters/smeared across the surface

Or, it was restored at some point in the interim, possibly as a historical site which might have competed with the amusement park for patronage, so they buried the knowledge of its whereabouts through a massive disinformation campaign and well placed bribes.
