@neil Worth checking your home insurance if you have it - just completed jury service myself and found that my insurance policy included 50€ a day for jury service!

@neil I think they want to incentivise home owners to serve on juries! Anyway I put in a claim and got the money.
@neil I did that once. Eight days long on a single trial. Some people are so stupidly narrow-minded.

@neil I'm not sure you're allowed to find everyone guilty just because you're grumpy being there.
Although that would be an interesting study - the impact of juror's attitude towards jury service and its impact on outcomes...
@Cyberoutsider Last time, some people were delighted, as it was paid time off work, and the lunch money got them a better lunch than they would have normally.
Others of us, trying to work in every spare moment and ruing the unwelcome commute on top of it, somewhat less delighted.

I've never been called up, but I'd quite like to be. A barrister friend of mine did not so long ago and managed not to get busted as a lawyer for one whole day! Encouragingly, he said it had restored his faith in the jury system.
People struggle to believe that I am a lawyer when they know that I am a lawyer, so let's see... :)

I cannot relate to that at all...
I've done jury service three times now and always quite enjoyed (though I am thinking of turning pro if I get selected again).
The first two times were a selection of shorter trials with the third being a single longer trial where I also ended up being the jury foreperson.
In all seriousness I think I've done my civic duty and am not too interested in a fourth stint unless it was something different such as Coroners court.

@neil @happy Twice called up, and twice ended up serving for week-long trials, one Sheriff Court and one Crown Court. I agree - it's interesting and, as a layperson, rather reassuring to see the process in action. But the novelty has definitely worn off now. I think the invalidation period should double each time.
@neil Let's hope you do not get assigned to the case of the Wards in Jarnydyce vs Jarnydyce (pardon the misspelling.)
