What kind of name is "Hugging Face" ? Nobody is going to discuss that? It's just... fine?
@futurebird thank you! I’ve been sitting with that, many more important things on my plate, but bothered nonetheless. Really, has product branding become uncool, or is uncoolness the new thing? The heck?
I was thinking about how odd it is that there is a clothing store in the US and maybe a few other countries called "Banana Republic" a few days ago.
I never really questioned this. I kind of think I know what they mean, something old time-y, exclusive and exotic. But also? What the hell.
They don't sell military suits with self-awarded metals, or cute handbags filled with bribes and guns from the CIA... or maybe they do.
It is odd. What are they trying to tell me?
@futurebird So, Banana Republic has been around since the 80s, when I was in HS it was all the rage. And you COULD buy a lot of very military looking clothing, particularly "safari" shirts in khaki with epaulettes, etc. And if you went into the flagship store in Cambridge, they had an open top expedition jeep in desert tan in the middle of the store, looking as if it had just come from fighting Rommel in the desert. It was the beginning of the camo trend in US fashion.
That is so ... weird.
I mean, on the one hand I could imagine wandering around in such a store and not thinking about it. But if you do? It's really really strange, right?
@futurebird This is what I always picture
