@MaddieM4 so its just not me who gets a very anti-women vibe from ai-bro's
@Abstract_Mage_Annastasia Oh, definitely not just you. If you don't follow @onepict yet, I highly recommend you do - she's the single clearest-thinking voice on this topic in my feed, with a strong emphasis on sociological principles that can be invisible to people with tech backgrounds, though she's in great company with people like @davidgerard as well.
Really though, it doesn't take a financially leveraged datacenter's worth of rented cognition to look around at all the stuff happening in the AI ecosystem - the nonconsensual porn (that's sometimes also CSAM), the hiring bias being accountability-sunk via ATS software, or the way the U.S. President uses AI image generators heavily to push a fascist agenda - and say about that stuff, "hey wait a fuckin' minute, here!"
@MaddieM4 @Abstract_Mage_Annastasia @davidgerard Coming from you Maddie that means a lot.
@onepict @MaddieM4 @Abstract_Mage_Annastasia i was about to add "yeah she's excellent"
@onepict @Abstract_Mage_Annastasia @davidgerard I could have been twice as complimentary and still as honest (arguably moreso!), but I figured for people who haven't read your stuff for themselves yet, I should save a little powder and aim for credibility and brevity. You're one of *the* people I think of, when it comes to fighting the good fight in 2026, or even knowing what the heck the good fight even is - something I can't say for nearly as many influential voices in tech as I would have hoped for a few years ago.
@MaddieM4 @Abstract_Mage_Annastasia @davidgerard
I think there are others like me and you in tech. Folks are a little shy and haven't found their voices yet. Sometimes folks need a rest first as well. Our industry does seem to enable burnout.
I mean it took me a while, I'm not far off fifty.
I was really impressed with your analysis of SFCs policy and what you post online.
@onepict @Abstract_Mage_Annastasia @davidgerard Oh my gosh, thank you! That's big coming from you!
I think with the coup (and it is a coup) of our labor market and information economy happening *so fast,* a lot of people are just... reeling. And in an industry that often under-emphasizes the ability to communicate, and many of the people affected just trying to hold onto the jobs they have, and that very real burnout that just delivers a sweeping blunt force hit to the cognitive function as a whole, there's this vacuum (in a power vacuum type of sense) for meaning and explanation. Ultimately, filling that vacuum is a collective project that'll end up mixing together a lot of people's contributed observations. But it's kind of a privilege to be one of the pioneer organisms, to have the freedom to be a starting point for the rest of the ecology to rebuild itself. At least, that's how I'm choosing to see being sick, broke, and having too much time on my hands 😂
