I literally cannot conceive of a thing that isn’t about politics in our current society. My breakfast is about politics. The weather is about politics. When I buy groceries that’s politics. My job is a political act. When I spend time with friends later today that act will also be political. And not because we’ll be protesting but because existing as queer brown women in public is a political act. The fact that so many of my friends are disabled or neurodivergent or sex workers is political
@danirabbit And what's outraging is how all of that is being "normalized" by media and communication.
@danirabbit The personal is political.
You remind me of the line "Those who do not do politics will be done in by politics", which I believe is a French proverb.
And yet I still hear people say "I don't do politics," which makes me want to scream "Well politics is doing you, dipshit, and everyone you care about."
@danirabbit gardening. just go outside -- then you can talk about the weather
@FreakyFwoof @danirabbit Always has been and if we don't change it soon, always will be.
@danirabbit it's a super scary time and it's driving us all crazy
Made so by the exact dummies who snarl at protesters and burp "why do you have to make everything political." Ucch.
@danirabbit Yes. The irony of folks who “don’t want to make it about politics” making it incredibly political. 🫠
we affect each other by what we say and do. lives are changed. the butterfly effect. everything is politics, or perhaps to avoid a term that is more closely correlated with manipulation, civics. and cultural.
The tortillas I get from the local panadería is politics. When I decide to turn on my AC and where that power comes from is politics. The donation-based yoga class I do with a black instructor is politics. The fucking pine-based cat litter I buy from the local feed store is politics! Nothing I do, buy, experience, or am is not part of the way I negotiate my place and the place of others I care about in society
@danirabbit I saw some comment on HN about how "my meal isn't political" and I'm like... Bud, I instantly have like 25 political questions about your meal and I'm not even fucking trying.
Why are people?
@danirabbit
politics is just doing life at scale. if we do it right, it's caring about people at scale.
@joshg @danirabbit caring about people is politics
