@cstross Asimov's "The Gods Themselves" comes to mind.
@cstross My Dad told me about a SF short story he read about 1st contact with snake like aliens. They started downloading and reading our books and stories. Then they found something that they found obscene, tried, and convicted us by our own laws. It was the Boy Scout Manual, specifically the chapter on knots. Those were their sexual positions. The square knot was their "vanilla missionary position".
Thinking about this bit, it was obviously written before the Courts ruled "What is Obscene?" with "I'll known it when I see it."

But the prim and proper lady at the local church who feels daring for writing prim and proper erotica on the side would have the opposite opinion, no doubt.
