I like the writing on @crookedtimber.org, but here is an example of the utter inadequacy of web browser storage interfaces.
A blog post asks me “Allow crookedtimber.org to store data in persistent storage?”
There a link to “Learn more”, but that goes to a browser explainer on storage mechanics, not what I actually want to know, which is what tf are you wanting to store and why :/
…I presume that it’s a web manifest that they’re wanting to store, to improve the offline readability of the blog.

…Anyway, I come across https://crookedtimber.org/2026/07/16/55382/ via @pluralistic and I’m struck by it saying:
“The most intractable area of [US] dependence is that of information technology”.
This strikes me as *woefully* energy (power generation) blind.
The UK gets a third of its oil from the US. And oil markets AFAIK are still holding their breath while being asphyxiated to the tune of 11% of global supply.
I see this kind of thing time and again. An utter disconnect from mineral awareness
…Okay, maybe continental Europe has less dependency than the UK on US fossils. I don’t know.
But dependency upon the US for oil and LNG is not a sidebar FFS.
So much of European political economy surfs on top of fantasy derived from a complete disregard for it consuming ~5x more oil than it produces. I wish it weren’t so
