If Mamdani did this, I would advocate having him thrown in federal prison.
Fortunately he lacks the legal authority, but if he forced the issue he would be jailed.
All current heads of state have diplomatic immunity. There is no way an arrest warrant could be served!

Incorrect. The ICC has issued a number of arrest warrants against current heads of state, and any country that is signatory to the Rome Accords is obligated to arrest them if entering their jurisdiction, diplomatic immunity notwithstanding. The only issue is that USA is not a participant in the ICC.

@darnell it would be an interesting question of whether the NYPD would even follow the order. I strongly suspect that many mayors of large cities are, let’s say ‘influenced’, by their police departments, and are generally not going to want to set up any sort of public confrontation they might lose.

Arresting a head of state would violate federal, local & be a breach of international laws. Mamdani would also face jail time & the political fallout would be massive.
