Open source maintainers build the critical digital infrastructure the world relies on, and open standards define how that infrastructure functions across systems. When the people who implement these technologies help write the standards, this results in better, more secure, and more interoperable technology: improving both our daily digital lives and our ability to understand and adapt technology.

But meaningful participation in standards development organizations takes time, effort, and sustained engagement. The #SovereignTechStandards network removes barriers to participation so that open source maintainers can bring their implementation experience directly into standards development.

This week at #IETF126 in Vienna, the Sovereign Tech Standards network is on the ground, working on standards that keep internet traffic from being misdirected, make encrypted email trustworthy and usable, bring secure connections to small connected devices, and improve how data travels across the modern web.
We'll be introducing all 2026 Sovereign Tech Standards network participants who are working with @ietf @w3c and ISO soon.
