A privacy project I spent over a decade contributing to:
- inserted blockchain while screaming this isn't a blockchain project (because it is "just" used for payment - which is essential), and
- went all in on GenAI, using multiple agents in different roles
- has lost what I valued in terms of functionality and credibility
- wants to be the storage platform for LLM agents
I go back to see how it is going: they don't have a product I can imagine using, no market and alienated the community.
@happyborg it’s so disappointing to contribute to a commons only to have the whole thing taken away from you. They truly feel like it’s a watershed moment and they must embrace it while most people just want a decent, functioning service.
LLM-driven development has truly been a great filter. We dropped libraries we wanted to use because they either went all in on LLM-written code, or because maintainers were flooded and abused and stopped maintaining it in the face of the onslaught.
@diemkay I was the biggest fan of Rust and would only ever want to use Rust, and then they decided to disallow consideration of ethics, morals etc in their discussion of GenAI use. Where to turn? Luckily I don't have time for code atm 😞
You're very right that this reveals what we need to know about people.
@diemkay one of the most disappointing things was the change in attitude and behaviour of the founder. He was a guy with values I shared and incredibly good with people including critics and cynics, as well as ability and experience in tech. His original vision is still relevant and awesome.
He's unrecognisable now.
