Damn I was NOT mentally or physically prepared for it to be hay bale night. Only got about half put away. Hopefully it won't rain overnight...
Also the barn cat did NOT help unload. (14yo did a great job driving the tractor, though!)

The neighbour gave us the numbers for how much hay he harvested off our land this year. 118 tons of hay off about 80 acres that we have in hay! 2/3 of that will go to the neighbour as payment for doing the haying and baling. 1/3 is for us, but he'll buy most of that.
We will keep 15 tons of that to feed the goats over the winter (that has a wide margin of error, they won't actually eat that much).
I did a slightly better job of stacking all the bales I was too tired to stack inside the hay loft last night. Now just have to get like... 70 more bales from the field and load them. At least the smoke continues to be high altitude here so we don't have to wear N95s while doing this.
And then I need to WRITE STUFF and *negotiate a book contract* (uhhh wow this is really happening) and then volunteer for astronomy night at the local small town library.
Today will require a lot of caffeine.
Future you pokes her head up and glowers at the "volunteer for astronomy night at the local small town library" plan.

Haven't gotten one of these Look-I-solved-all-of-physics mass-emails to a whole random list of physics people in a while.
But I also got an invitation to be on a BBC radio podcast about space debris. So... mostly winning, I guess?
Time to go move hay now.
Well, whatever other bullshit happens today, I did actually manage to move literally 1 ton of hay into the barn before lunchtime. (There's still more, but I'm out of time for farming stuff today...)

@sundogplanets A year or two ago, I was sitting in a pub here in Colorado. And a guy at the next table leaned over and asked "excuse me, but are you a physicist?"
I hesitated and then said "well, I guess so. I do have physics degrees."
He handed me his book, his lifework, describing his theory of gravity and time. He hoped I would find it useful -- he's been thinking about this for years and finally figured it out.
I thanked him.
And ordered another pint ...

In grad school, we were given emails like this as exercises to explain why they were wrong. Not as easy as it sounds….often some assumption that wasn’t true buried in pages of otherwise correct math. It was annoying if you had a dissertation to finish, but looking back it often helped solidify nuances in the physics….and the group discussions were always insightful. Silver lining? 😆

Goats are not picky eaters, I watched one steal a handkerchief from a pocket and run off to happily much away. Probably wasn't the best thing for his digestive system, though.
