@mattblaze I haven't had rhe energy to "Internet" for awhile now, but nice to know the climate hasn't changed any.
@mattblaze Although I'm with you on the CW Thing - one may filter out political terms oneself - you are becoming more and more rude lately (or always were?) and somewhat whiny/touchy about these things. My consequence? I won't block or mute you, but unfollow. This is not the kind of behaviour I expect from people on this network, even less so from someone who is a scientist/researcher.
@Gilgamesch Do whatever you want. I really don’t give a shit if you think I’m too rude to trolls. Sounds like a you problem.
@mattblaze @Gilgamesch Being rude to trolls in front of an audience is one of the few perks of being slightly famous on social media.
@cstross @mattblaze @Gilgamesch now there’s a level of fame that feels worth aspiring too.
@cstross @Gilgamesch Not famous enough to get a good table at a restaurant when it’s fully booked, but famous enough to be able to speak my mind as I see fit, is good enough for me.
@mattblaze mate, I vote for progressive candidates, donate big chunks of my money to progressive causes. I recycle. I do everything I fucking can to do things right.
I have no more energy left to get outraged at problems on the other side of the world I can do nothing to help. I am burned out.
So if you or anyone else posts unfilterable politics about causes I can't do a damn thing about other than get upset about, you go on the naughty list.
And I get this shit bubble up in the trending page?
In conclusion: fuck you too, buddy!
@Hyperlynx You might not have learned about Mastodon’s new policy where you’re no longer required to follow me or read my posts. In fact, if they really bother you, you can even mute or block my account.
So I no longer feel the least bit obliged to cater my posts to the whims of every censorious asshole on the planet who wants to control what I write about.
@mattblaze @Hyperlynx And we can make our own CWs by creating Mutes on words and terms, with completely invisible if we really want to keep out timelines clear.
@mattblaze I'll second that explanation. 🙄🤦♀️
@mattblaze
Back around 2015, my brother complained about stuff I was posting on Facebook and would i please stop it. I told him "my page, my posts." He was free to unfollow or block, whatever he chose.
@mattblaze fuck you is a perfectly fine content warning if you change your mind
The Block button is your friend :)
Sadly, they didn't get to see that, because I blocked them before I posted it.
That's always the emotional dilemma of blocking, isnt it. When i tell someone I'm blocking them, which is rare, i almost never actually do, because i dont want to miss anything. But i never respond ever again.
Seriously, if you're allergic to posts about election technology, you really, really, shouldn't follow me. Or at least keep an epi pen on hot standby.
@mattblaze the thing that is incredible to me about all of this, is on mastodon there's no "algorithm", it's all opt-in directly by your choices. So people are complaining to other people about their own choices, as if they're entitled to direct others.
In any event, let me tap the sign, which is clearly posted as a pinned post:
@mattblaze Maybe US politics has become so obscene that it warrants for the same precautions as adult content would ... 🤔
@mattblaze
Mastodon should have a way to put a universal content warning on an account. I.e. do not follow this account if you might be upset by something I might post.
"We're not asking you not to post about US politics. We're just asking you to use a content warning. We're being very reasonable, and your refusal to do so now that we've asked is unreasonable and hostile"
Oh, I'm sorry I wasn't clear. Fuck you.
During fascism and potential election tampering, people’s biggest problems being your posts is wild to me.
