If you would like some speculation on why the media was slow to pick up the story, think it is likely due to SpaceX treating this launch attempt much differently from previous flights. In the past, there was a great deal of company PR hype in the week leading up to the event with a lot discussion of the technology and the prospects that it would yield, like AI in space. In this case the company was very quiet, only giving understated notice a couple days before the launch attempt.
