@aral when people stand up and use "Luddite" the way Lucas and so many capitalists like to use it, its a good filter honestly. You can see the shallowness of those ideologues -- they dont realize the Luddites were labor rights folks, not "people who opposed technology".
They were people who knew THEY HAD NO JOBS TO REPLACE THOSE TAKEN FROM THEM.
@markwyner @aral Yeah but I suppose this has to be seen in the context of selling Lucasfilm to Michael Eisner, his West Coast alignments more generally, and so forth. If the man himself can't justify his position on other grounds, and I see that as unlikely, any moral authority behind the original writing for his character Yoda is quickly shed ("if you choose the quick and easy path as Vader did...") Generating crap without attribution is such, and vetting it mean reverts the perceived gains.
@markwyner @aral @bms48 Hard to believe a man who paraphrased the work of other filmmakers to launch the Star Wars franchise would feel that way.
*Akira Kurosawa has entered the chat*
Facts. Good call. Also, I don’t know many other folks who are Kurosawa fans. I LOVE his films.
@markwyner Me too. I firmly believe that "Scandal" is a Christmas classic that needs to be elevated to that status. @aral @bms48
