Feels like certain conversations aren't, and can't even be had, because people don't at baseline understand what a red pine or a white spruce are. A society so detached from the land, especially a capitalist one, seems incapable of not lighting itself on fire.
Like, I'm shitting on the NDP opposition because they aren't going after the forestry sector, but could Avi or Marit even recognize those trees if they saw them, let alone understand their relationship to fire ecology? I doubt it, and I'm probably being unfair by individualizing it to them. This is a much bigger systemic issue of land alienation in the settler-colonial state.
