Do you remember when you were introduced to the calculator at school in maths? I remember back then it was quite exciting weeks for me and the rest of the class. But I also vividly remember our maths teacher telling us about the pitfalls of over-reliance on it.
It feels like the world was introduced to AI overnight without a teacher or, better, our heads of state in this case, stepping in and leading the way to use it this way, but better not that way, and to confine it to certain tasks only.
@mellifluousbox actually, all the way to the graduation exams, we were explicitly disallowed to use a calculator for maths. Even at the exam, you had to do the thing with adding long numbers digit by digit (idk what it's called in English). The teachers' arguments that "you won't always have a calculator on you" were already laughable back then because everyone already had a phone.
But the way some people use AI is more like doing math without understanding what addition and multiplication are.

As a matter of fact, I don’t recall any calculators from school. Slide rule used to be the order of the day. 😉
But with your conclusion I concur, and not only as far as AI goes. How often computers in general also have been brought into places without any proper introduction?
@mellifluousbox remember calculators were EXTREMELY expensive in the early 80s tho. Like $100+ for even the simplest one.
