Starship Flight 13 Scrubbed
What is really fascinating is that SpaceX tried and failed to launch their Starship rocket today. The attempt was scrubbed after four engines failed to light, and there is almost no news coverage of the event. It's very weird.

Way more fun to report on a rocket that blows up on the launch pad than one with faulty ignition, right?
Early next week we can expect the spectacular “rapid unscheduled disassembly” event again 🙂

@mastodonmigration Interesting. The usual "if you don't talk about it/measure it /report it then it didn't happen" attitude from the anti-science Musk and his ilk (which includes the entire US regime just now).
"Move fast and break things" doesn't work when you need to design, build and test reliably working technology.

Perhaps, but it is certainly news. The company just had the biggest IPO in history. Everything they are promising as well as the future US space program hinges on the success of this really big spaceship.

Actually, this is not true. They have not had a truly successful launch, and the program is years behind schedule and may never actually work.

This article reports Musk says they are going to remove and replace two of the engines and try again next week.
This is not a small problem.
These reason this is a very big deal is that these are the new Raptor 3 engines that were introduced in the last test Flight 12. In that instance there were also engine failures in flight.
These engines were supposed to be the answer to Starship underperformance and reliability issues, and it seems like that is not, at least so far, proving out.
The truly perplexing thing is that SpaceX has previously made a big deal about each launch. It has been very difficult to find out when the launch was planned with final notice only coming days ago and very underpromoted. Today it was only streamed for 30 minutes before the launch attempt by SpaceX and a few enthusiasts.
Feels like something major has changed in their PR strategy now that the company has gone public.
I think they’re down like 40%!
