@byroncclark @openvibe Several years ago I read his novel that was turned into *Who Framed…* and several of the sequels.
It’s interesting: my assumption is that Wolfe can’t directly use a lot of movie elements, but towed the line. The first book is set in the “modern era” (presumably the 80s), presumes Toons as hand,inf a lot of stunt work and basically doing photo shoots for comic strips and such, and has them able to talk in speech bubbles, make copies of themselves, and other tricks. The movie presents a much more distilled version with a “golden age of Hollywood” setting.
The first sequel moves to the same era and in general seems a lot closer to being related to the movie. Valiant here seems inspired by the movie version and even has another brother for the plot to avoid a presumably unnameable movie character.
I think the sequels name more actors than Toons. I presume it’s easier to clear mentioning a deceased actor than use a character owned by a massive corporation.
The idea of an author drifting a series to be more in line with movie canon is not new, but it’s an interesting odd occurrence.
@byroncclark @openvibe Cool World! I believe that movie is another example of the rich guys at the production studio screwing up the artists' creativity. Reading these comments triggered an ADHD side quest to go learn about Ralph Bakshi, the director of Cool World. He has quite a childhood story and apparently was the ditector of animated movies that captured the attention of younger me. Fire and Ice, Wizards, American Pop, and the 1978 Lord of the Rings.

@byroncclark @openvibe @alice Damn, that's a good human. I'll have to give the movie a rewatch in honor of learning about this

@byroncclark @openvibe imagine thinking someone cosplaying a toon from this movie could be "too black"
@byroncclark anyone ridiculing roger rabbit cosplay didn't understand roger rabbit like at all.
I love everything about thus statement!
@byroncclark @openvibe I wish I knew how to get people to care about anything that actually matters half as much as they care about other people's appearances.
@byroncclark @openvibe Against the continuing stream of disappointments, there stands the occasional genuine hero.
@tut_tuuut j'ai déclaré à l'apéro de mercredi soir que si je devais faire du drag queen, je serais jessico lapine
@byroncclark @openvibe Mind posting the link to the original? These things should be properly preserved and archived with the source, not internet screenshots which will be relentlessly copied and degraded.
Thank you in advance.
@vitor @openvibe sure thing, it's at https://www.facebook.com/1498857407/posts/10243386337263003/
@byroncclark @openvibe I looked up book Wiki page and learned the following, sued Disney for unpaid royalties - and won. Been married for 50 years. Served in Vietnam and was awarded a Bronze Star. Owns an "extensive" collection of carousel horses. 🎠
What an absolute legend.
