I miss forums.
@neil same. I've been thinking about what it would mean if forums worked with a shared API, then client would generate ids, and you would be able to add a forum/community to a client and work with it from there. Ideally, no registration simply with a generated identity. Compatible over SMF, phpBB, vBulletin, etc. Like .. add a forum and participate, with each forum being specific to its community/topic.
@neil Is this some sort of follow-up to "Beware the ides of March"? Et tu, Neil?
@neil I miss Yahoo! Chat.
@neil Same (and newsgroups and BBSes, which I think are the same thing). I made a lot of friends in the late 90s and early 2000s but have lost touch with most of them. I have just discussed Ready Player One at film club which triggered a lot of nostalgia.
@pwaring Ooh, interesting. I enjoyed it, in the sense of it being a polemic against centralised, for profit, services.
@neil let's go all the way back to newsgroups. Many happy days getting in to work early so I could use their dial up line to do "research" on the binaries groups.
@neil
I actually miss forums too. I used to be in a couple which were really joyful places to hang out in my mid teens.
Okay, okay, youngster... Rub it in why don't you.
For me, it was somewhat later in life (earlier for me was irc and chatrooms), but yes, I liked forums.
@neil 😂
I'm in a couple of writing Discord groups but it's just not the same..
@Jaimieserotica AFAIK, I've never used Discord.
@neil Damn shame the UK took em all out the back door and send them to a farm upstate, isn't it?
