@Damselfly word. I had that dissonance looking at responses from people about Musk several years ago. That was before he went all out and open on fascism, but after he started being more obviously a shitty person.
The lengths folks went to try and explain the shitty (and the already obvious oligarchic) away were… quite something.
@rysiek @Damselfly fuck Linus. Finland’s most embarrassing export.
@Damselfly hey @Canageek
does this change anything for us, or are we already sufficiently picky about our distros
like at what point do AI changes to the kernel start making it downstream to us
is Mint keeping me safe
or is now the time we start looking for alternatives
@WizardOfDocs @Damselfly So the only alternatives away from Linux are significantly hard to use to the point they make me nervous, or unfinished enough that they're not really usable for people who aren't comfortable fixing things themselves. :(
@Canageek @Damselfly damn
well, hopefully there will be an AI-free Linux fork soon, and in the meantime this is still better than Windows
@WizardOfDocs @Damselfly There is a project to make an entire operating system in rust that has a strong no AI stance, but I don't think it's anywhere near ready for normal people to use.
A lot of the versions of BSD out there are anti-ai, but even then the packages they are dependent on are full of AI
Linus Torvalds has never been a good guy. This is who he always was. This is not a fucking surprise. The man was sending the most wretched and hateful messages to women programmers in the 90s when all they wanted to do was help. I know, I’m one of them.
The fact that people react to this shit with surprise is just… what the fuck?
