Does anyone know what "winning the AI race" actually looks like?
What does happen if "China gets there first", where is there?
As far as I can tell the argument made by the US Frontier labs seems to be "the first one who gets to RSI wins because then rate of improvement goes exponential".
Is that it? "We've won when we have created AI god"? Any other victory conditions accepted?
China OTOH, seems to be in a different race.
@Tallish_Tom it's based on a series of misconceptions about #AI, the most key of which — which I confess I have had myself in the past — that once you have an AI that is able to write an AI that is 'better' than itself (more general, faster), it will generate a recursive explosion of better and better machines until it produces the General Omnicompetent Device, or #GOD.

Thinking a bit more. The frontier "winner" model means that if you pick the wrong company you will lose everything. If Anthropic wins your OpenAI shares (or investment pre-IPO) will trend to 0 in a quarter.
So, high risk, even if it works...
