I am increasingly leaning away from calling "AI" generated stuff "slop" towards calling it "corrosion". Because that's what it does. To our information landscape. To the quality of artifacts around us. To our social connections. To our mental health. To our cognitive abilities.
@tante to be fair that's what slop does to the body if that's all you feed it
And it's one syllable instead of 3 - that does matter when it comes to idea accessibility and spread!
@tante Garbage. Entire world in, garbage out.
I refer to it in one of three ways, depending on context:
- Assumed Intelligence.
- my cat.
- Unsupervised Text Extruders.
@tante The biggest risk is slowly lowering expectations.
Maybe "sludge"?
@tante I mean, enshittification was right there
@tante
I recently called it „Entropy Generator“.
It converts existing working stuff into mor or less working stuff. But after the transformation overall entropy increased.
@tante putrification is more organic as is the more succinct AI rot. Maybe other synonyms.
@tante When an organism digests food it converts it to poop...
@tante I’ve heard it compared to asbestos. We used to sprinkle it everywhere, only to find out that maybe it wasn’t such a good idea after all.
Acid causes corrosion and hallucinations.
@tante Yeah, I see it as straight up poison.
It hurts the projects which embrace it, the people which use it, the knowledge that goes through it and the work that it syphons.
It's a widespread poison that's killing computing in like 8 different ways all at once
