Always fun to get an RSS notification about an IEEE expulsion. This one looks to be pretty big: IEEE Fellow Professor Fei-Yue Wang, former editor of former editor-in-chief of the journal IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Vehicles. He was awarded an IEEE Fellowship just last year (2025). I don’t know what he’s done, but it’s gotta be serious to expel an IEEE Fellow.

@ThermiteBeGiants Academic misconduct, espionage, or sexual harassment?
Lol, they don’t expel people for that last one, they just let them quietly resign.
@futzle I’m not aware of a sexual misconduct expulsion, which is unfortunate, but in 2021 they did expel a professor from IEEE following a determination that he had pressured a (male) graduate student to submit falsified data and harassed him to the point of suicide.
@ThermiteBeGiants @futzle This professor did have an article retracted in 2024 and disputed the allegation of it breaching IEEE guidelines. Perhaps this is the end result of that process?
@emmadavidson @futzle what’s bizarre is that the guy was made an IEEE Fellow in 2025 I think, and he was the editor of a fairly big IEEE Journal during that time. The mind boggles
