Seeing the Torvalds take a stance of "AI" is useful, don't deny it... Seems like the perfect time for me to embrace the escapism of my hypothetical computers!
Imagine a vectorized 32bit CPU running off of a couple SD-card (or cartridge) slots, with a raw memory-mapped peripherals? Maybe it'd fallback to booting into a Lua interpretor, or whatever language you prefer.
A joystick & 2 buttons for primary-input, eink & optional screenreader for primary output, controls on a dumbphone?

What if we designed a computer specialized in the communications tasks we actually use computers for? In parsing, decompression, error-detection, signal analysis & cryptography, lookups, (de)multiplexing, etc? With a GPU that's not overkill for laying out & rendering documents/UIs?
I can imagine an algorithm whereby you could show it some sample (annotated) input & it'd infer a grammar!
Or how about my upcoming hypothetical Video Workstation, based loosely on the PS3?

I think in the coming days (when I want to drown out discourse) I'll list some of the algorithms I'm excited to explore in my Video Workstation hypothetical!
And that dumbphone's on my mind, look forward to toots on that.
There's so many exciting algorithms, why does the industry need to be so tunnel-visioned? I want to open minds to the possibilities here!
