No, LLMs have democratized dependency.
The frontier labs are using the same playbook as drug dealers. Give everyone cheap access to a replacement brain until individuals, businesses, and entire industries are dependent on it for their very existence, then jack up the prices and watch society burn.

Democratized software development is being able to develop software using good, reliable tools for roughly $0.
As I have for a long, long time.
Meanwhile, devs are having to pay $$$, with costs now skyrocketing, to "build" software completely beholden to a handful of slop machines. Makes zero sense. (And no, "my employer pays for the tokens" is not an excuse!)
@jaredwhite Agree! I'm at RubyConf right now and someone literally said they don't remember how to use vim anymore because they haven't written code by themselves in a year.
I refuse to get caught with my pants down when this all explodes.
@camertron *Even* if I totally thought that getting generators to help me was worthwhile, I don't understand that in the slightest. Did they secretly hate writing code all these years, and now thank god it's all over?
I don't get that mindset at all. I write code because I *enjoy* writing code. I would do it even if no one paid me—in fact I do that all the time! 😅
