I'll regret asking this I'm sure, but let's say I was sick of VSCodium / VSCode being incredibly slow, what nice simple genAI-free IDE should I try out on macOS?
I like GUIs, but just want code editing, a terminal, a file browser, and version control. No other cruft required, and absolutely no genAI shite. What's good these days?
To pre-empt some answers: I'm unlikely to use vim. Emacs is a possibility.
@Floppy I use Zed, it has ai stuff, but there is a global off switch for it. Made by the same people who made atom
@Floppy I’ve been enjoying Zed but yes have to turn AI stuff off.
@Floppy Xcode can be used just for code editing, no need to create projects. Good support for syntax highlighting of a large number of languages. It's what I use for all of my code editing, even stuff that's not Apple development.

I use phpStorm, its very good, if you are not using php they do stuff for other languages
@Floppy I use Zed these days, with the AI kill switch. They do promote AI though... Otherwise Sublime Text still works really well.

@Floppy have you looked at TextMate - I think it's got some (if not all) of what you're wanting?
@jsbilsbrough good call, I used it years ago, but should go see how it's getting on
@Floppy I use it for editing the CSS git repo for the Tripsy HelpScout docs, so it can definitely handle version control, and when loaded as a project I get file browsing.
