We had an old friend over last night, who’s reached the very upper strata of the tech industry in California. It’s fascinating to observe what’s happened to his language after a few years there: everything is “vectors” and “surfaces.”
Someone more energetic than I could probably extract real insight from the evidently widespread geometricization of thought in the Valley, and how this particular choice of metaphors shapes the realities available to those deploying them…but it’s not going to be me, today.
