Someone tell me I don't need an embroidery machine
edit: I bought an embroidery machine
@jenniferplusplus What you really need is a friend with an embroidery machine that they'll loan to you.
@bradwilson yes, that is exactly what I need
@jenniferplusplus maybe tell us what you think you need it for... Then we can tell you or not....
Can't embroidery be done by hand? And maybe that is the joy of sewing? And a machine is like entering a production based, extraction inducing economic justification for buying it... So why do you want one? What extra joy will it bring?
@craiglambie42 it will bring me pokemon plushies I can't otherwise get, for battles with my son
The joy of a craft is to do it, and do it well. We do not do it to be mechanically perfect, nor to produce a million products. We do it for ourselves, to develop a personal skill and experience, possibly to challenge ourselves.
You can do that with machine enhancements, too.
But you do not *need* the machine. It is optional, a personal choice.
@Amgine omg i am incredibly not doing embroidery by hand
Oh, I have! not recently. I knit, mostly.
Embroidery was easy; I grew up in a house where it was a regular thing. It takes time, especially as my mom insisted the back should be as neat as the front.
Knitting, otoh, has taken over far too much of my life. Still positive about it.
@jenniferplusplus you don't need an enbroidery machine, but it does sound like an interesting hobby if you have room for another one.
@jenniferplusplus You absolutely need an embroidery machine. 😄
You don't need an embroidery machine.
@jenniferplusplus you probably don't need an embroidery machine
@hipsterelectron I didn't expect so many people to actually do the thing. I was expecting a lot more of doing the opposite thing
@jenniferplusplus @hipsterelectron
I'm just practicing transference: my bad tool purchase decisions on to you. 😄
@tankgrrl @hipsterelectron it just occurred to me that I have a miter saw I've used twice, and a router I've never used. If I can have those, I can have an embroidery machine
@jenniferplusplus Art and joy are allowed.
@mhoye yes, but I have nowhere to put it, and also I don't need another hobby
