The concept of international human rights has clearly been rejected by the US and other powerful states long ago. It’s a tool that seems to have been mostly available for holding leaders from the global south accountable. Accountability is always worth the fight; however, I don’t feel super confident it can consistently come from a global hierarchical structure.
Even so, this is not the way. Beyond paving the way for more atrocities, it sends a message that this is the era of the atrocity.
