At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I want a modern alternative to email. Something that let's me look at things async like in email. But with a big red button that says "dont send me anymore of this shit" that actually works.

You could make people register their details in order to send more than a certain number of emails an hour per account per machine. Especially if the emails are all the same size (indicative of copy-pasting), and are clearly being sent to an alphabetized list of accounts, each for the first time.
