> I’m a USB-C Maximalist
I am in the same position as @Edent here. Lack of a USB-C charging port is a major disadvantage to me.
I have a USB-C beard trimmer, which clearly Terence does not need :)
And a USB-C torch.

However, I have a different opinion on the next step that requires USB-C as powersupply for devices.
Currently looking with a customer to migrate their hardware, and a device that needs 2 ports (power and communication) means both ports have to support both roles, so dual PD controllers and dual USB. And since the voltage needed is >20V this means more expensive device hardware and PSU, which for most people is a dedicated PSU for that device anyway.

Couple of YouTubers been showing those off, programmable buck converters
@neil I just don't like the fact that it's symmetric. There are so many more things that can go wrong because of that. Does it work? Maybe, maybe it depends on which way you have turned the cable, depending on which ways the cable is broken. A USB-C-to-USB-C cable can be broken in so many different ways. 😅 @Edent
@neil @Edent actually another awesome USB C device are the rechargeable fans you can now get, I have a couple of unbranded ones they are about 8 inches across and are close in performance to mains powered ones and have enough capacity to run all night. Awesome for camping or (like last weekend) you are stuck with a hotel that has no aircon. Also can be used on the train when the aircon fails if you don't mind evil/envious looks or just pass it around :)
@neil @Edent 100% this, I have my trusty Pinecil (USB C soldering iron) in my bag in a case with a bit of solder and that has saved the day more often than you would think from fixing broken wires on fairy lights to re-soldering the copper fuel hose on a 1932 Austin Seven (Dad - "that will never get hot enough!" *sfx of me sniggering when it melted all the solder in the brass fitting and it fell off* "oh") fixed it though as we put it back on and re-soldered it :)
@neil I will absolutely take a recommendation for a beard trimmer. Mine needs tidying up now and again 😄

But I am not sure if this particular one will still be available 17 months later...
(I'd still recommend it though.)
