I am looking for the right hashtag to get a better reach for this poll on normalcy and identity. I am focusing on normalcy, so I don't want to hit hashtags similar to "neurodiversity". Maybe #neurology, #psychology, or #sociology would be interested?
@travisfw the problem you'll discover is 'normalcy' doesn't actually exist.
to be healthy in a profoundly unhealthy society, is to be unhealthy. and this societal system, built on genocide slavery and more systemic biogtries than are easy to list,
is under no circumstances healthy.
what most consider normal, isn't normal, since its not "normal" (by metric of nearly all human history) to be ok with what is accepted.
@lins_c sure. There are books and books on the issues with normativity. Nonetheless normalcy is a pervasive and tenacious social construct that everyone develops some kind of relationship to, and many people adopt as a part of their identity.
I think it should be okay for people to identify as normal if they feel it is right and true. That wouldn't necessarily make them any more "unhealthy" than others who can't adopt normativity the same way.
