This clip shows a Japanese factory producing feather shuttlecocks for badminton — complete with computer scanners ensuring the quality of the feathers plus perhaps 100 other steps.
Sure you could replicate this in the US, but then there would still be millions of other product lines.
@randahl The thing is: The USA +still+ produces about 20% of the world's manufactured goods.
Over the last 4 decades, we've shifted towards smaller, higher-quality goods that can compete against other similar products quite well on the world stage.
Trump wants to return to the heyday of USA manufacturing dominance, when you could be a factory worker with a HS education. Even when I was working in a (dangerous, nasty) factory in the 80s, it was obvious that era was coming to an end.

More importantly, the cost of living in the US ensures that there is no way he is going to find millions of people willing to work for a bowl of rice, even less so with ICE running around shooting anyone who doesn't look Aryan enough, so prices will have to increase ten-fold, including the cost of living...

@randahl at this point it is valid & appropriate to forget about & disregard USA completely & concentrate on the world to become better & united. USA has proven they wanted to catapult themselves out of any alliance, market & do not want to be part of the world, sabotaging themselves & every other nation, being weak, unreliable & nonsensical. We - the world - don't need to cling onto them as a habit & don't need to attach ourselves to their chosen fate. We are successful & build new alliances.
