Fellow millenials, I too yearn for the unencumbered life of childhood. When making friends was just talking to the person next to you. Someone else had to worry about keeping the electricity going and a steady source of calories. When the news was just an irritating jingle before the TV turned boring. But I do not mistake that for nostolgia of the times.
Since then... Knowledge has been released from locality constraints. Culture has opened up, where more people than ever are free to be themselves with less fear of shitheads taking drastic action. More than ever we live in a global society, growing the "us" and shrinking "the other".
Is your 90s nostolgia is conflating two separate ideas?
