35 years ago when I worked for SCO they were a respectable UNIX VAR, Red Hat didn't exist yet, and IBM was still saying that the future would run on OS/2.

35 years ago when I worked for SCO they were a respectable UNIX VAR, Red Hat didn't exist yet, and IBM was still saying that the future would run on OS/2.
As I recall OS/2 (we got a coupon for a free copy in a pack of 3M HD floppy discs), it installed and you could get as far as starting applications but they would only open documents *sometime in the future*, and we had to shut down and go home before that ever happened. Might have worked if we had a Pentium rather than a 486 machine...
@cstross I'm a bit surprised the writing wasn't already on the wall in 2001, given that SCO vs Novell kicked off only two years later.
I certainly didn't know anything about it until the actual case hit the news, but I was an absolute nobody back then. My only direct connection with SCO was being quasi-responsible for a pretty awful predictive dialer system that used OpenServer in the late nineties.
