@pluralistic I'm nobody in particular, but I've followed you for a while and generally feel positively inclined towards you, but this is a very bizarre thread. I had to look Ollama up, bc it's well outside any technical expertise I might have, but people have a valid criticism here regarding its usage. Just bc you dled an instance of an LLM to use privately doesn't somehow take away any of the massive negative elements regarding this tech.

I'm curious, what advantages does Ollama have over running "old school" spell check? I use vim and occasionally libre office when I write, and the dictionary based spell check in each has always seemed to work pretty reliably across multiple languages.

@pluralistic @kimcrawley Cory, that is literally an editing function you've handed over to gen AI. Repeatedly declaring this to be untrue is truly weird behavior, and feels like very bad faith indeed.

After 25 years of working for a nonprofit and writing more than 30 books, some of them bestsellers, I have a modest home with a mortgage, I take one vacation a year (sometimes to Burning Man, though, as it happens, not last year, this year or next year, because of book tours), and I have a small retirement account.I don't know what that has to do with AI, but since you raised it, there you are.
