I understood that the melodies are per line, not per station, where did I misunderstand ? cc @networker_365
@slims @networker_365 Each station has its own melody. I used to have an alarm clock that played them. (Please don’t judge me for this. 😂)
@slims Yes you are mostly right, although there are a few exceptions. For example, the melodies at Kanda and Ikebukuro stations are sponsored by nearby companies, hence their company songs are in use.
@networker_365 I see! Thank you for the response. So aside from those exceptions, what people are hearing when riding the Yamanote-sen is really a different line in neighboring platform about to take off? It just seems now odd to think that these are “station melodies”.
@slims When it comes to the Yamanote line, there are a few stations which still use the old system, hence good-old-day music is still in use. But I am sure they will disappear too within a year or so
