@randahl Enh. "How do you feel about X?" questions are open ended and only so helpful. I need to know policy, plans, steps taken, etc.
@randahl I feel like there is a breakfast pastry joke here but I haven’t had enough coffee yet. Great question though.
@randahl
what a bawbag answer.
sycophants keep reproducing.
human remoras?
@randahl - Rutte is completely spineless. And yes, NATO is getting stronger because of Trump. Just not as an ally.
I wonder if Rasmus had a 'follow-up' question on this non-answer?
Dutch journalists are pretty good at eating American journalists for breakfast, too. They gobbled up the embarrassingly outmatched, former Trump ambassador to the Netherlands, Pete Hoekstra, like a cup of pickled herring.
@randahl sure, praise someone when someone deserves it, totally agree. But also criticize someone when they deserve to be criticized. That last part seems to be missing in Rutte.
@randahl Mark Rutte sucks, in the past, now and in the future.
@randahl Even Dutch journalists — when he was PM here he was awful, and to my knowledge, nobody ever really asked him hard questions.
My impression is that Rutte does not have as fragile an ego as some I can think of, and that as SG of NATO, he perceives it as more important to keep Trump c.s. aboard, than to maintain a favorable public image of himself.
@randahl Only the Americans can vote out Donald Trump. European politicians are left with Realpolitik. And the reality is that Trump is president.
Which country is going to produce and send weapons to Ukraine at the quantities required to defend Europe in Ukraine?
Europe doesn't produce enough. I wish we would. But we don't.
So I don't blame Mark Rutte. I am sure he is aware of the optics of his actions. It's not pretty. But, in my view, he's taking one for the team. And I can respect that.
if a drunk man invades your house, one approach is to smile and flatter him and charm him to perhaps leave
also, you could be genuinely scared and act weak and deferential to a random drunk in your own house, which just emboldens the drunk to do worse
we can ascribe motive a or b to mark, but the results of the approach, regardless of motive, are dubious
the ideal is you firmly grab the fucking drunk by collar and drag him out of your fucking house
@randahl Wtf what was that response supposed to mean? It sounds like he is crawling up even deeper Trumps ass after such a question.
@randahl That's a hard burn.
